As I look at the horror movie covers from the 50's, I notice that they used much more color than the horror movie covers that have been made in 2014. The covers in 2014 seem like the creators of the cover were trying to be as terrifying as possible. The colors from the 50's seem as if they film makers were trying to take advantage of the new technology of using color rather than to make them look scary. As we look at them now, the reason they don't look scary could be because current media has desensitized the things that we once thought was scary.
Most of the covers in 2014 also use faces with their mouths open, many of them have blood in them or coming out of them. These covers in 2014 make it seem that the person in the picture is screaming for their life while they are in the act of dying. In the pictures in the 50's, more of them have pictures of the villain rather then the person being attacked.

  1. I agree that it seems as if the creators of the 50s covers were trying to use as much color as possible, since it was a new and exciting advancement in the film world. It's funny because now bright colors are hardly ever used in scary films because everything is always so dark.

    1. I like how you saw the colors in that way. It is interesting that when we think of horror films in our time, we will think about dark colors which in turn will make us think about dark and scary things. Back in the 50's, as I look at the movie covers now, it looks less like a horror film and more like a simple cartoon or some kind of comedy possibly. Since we are so use to seeing dark colors being tied to horror movies, seeing bright colors being tied to "horror" movies seems funny and they do not seem scary. I do understand that they were just using the new technology that they had but it seems foolish to see a horror movie with bright colors. Also, the covers don't even look like a movie cover, they look more like a magazine cover than a movie cover.
